Return to Hogan’s Alley is an award winning short documentary about Vancouver's original black neighborhood. This vibrant and notorious area was a magnet for famous entertainers but it was also seen by 1960s city planners as an example of urban blight. Although the heart of Hogan's Alley was destroyed to make way for a proposed 12-lane freeway, the loss of the neighbourhood awakened a rebellion that halted the project and changed Vancouver forever.

BIO

Originally from NYC, I moved to Vancouver for film school and never went home. I spent 15 years moving up the editing ladder starting as an apprentice on Jumanji to an assistant editor on low budget features to finally becoming an editor. I edited a variety of shows from features (including Air Bud 2), TV shows (including CBC's These Arms of Mine, The New Addams Family, Breaker High) as well as short films, ads, music videos and documentary series. I concentrated on editing and story editing for TV before transitioning to directing and producing in 2012. For the next 8 years I worked as a full time producer and director for Spotlight Productions where I produced over 300 short format (under 5 mins) stories as well as longer 15-30 minute documentaries of all varieties. Several of my short docs have been official selections at film festivals in Canada, the U.S., and the UK and my film, Return to Hogan's Alley, won best short documentary at the 2019 Baltimore International Black Film Festival. I've been nominated for a Leo 4 times as director (always a bridesmaid...) and I look forward to continuing to tell documentary stories for years to come.
